Terms of Service

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of LicenseForge ("Service"), available at licenseforge.dariuszgulbicki.pl, operated by Dariusz Gulbicki ("we", "us", "our").

LicenseForge provides free, browser-based tools to help developers, creators, and small businesses research software licenses, compare license attributes, and generate legal document templates. No account registration is required to use any part of the Service.

2. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using any part of the Service you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

3. The Service

LicenseForge currently offers the following free tools:

• License Browser — plain-language summaries of 40+ open-source licenses.
• Side-by-Side Compare — attribute-level comparison of any two licenses.
• License Quiz — a guided questionnaire that recommends a suitable license.
• Custom License Builder — a clause-level composer for custom licenses.
• Attribution Generator — generates NOTICE files and README attribution snippets.
• Privacy Policy Generator — produces a Privacy Policy document template.
• Terms of Service Generator — produces a Terms of Service document template.

All tools run primarily in your browser. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without prior notice.

4. Permitted Use

You may use the Service for any lawful personal, educational, or commercial purpose, including:

• Researching and comparing open-source licenses for your projects.
• Generating draft legal documents for review by a qualified legal professional.
• Embedding exported text (license text, attribution notices) in your own software or documentation.

5. Prohibited Use

You must not:

• Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or regulation.
• Reproduce, resell, or redistribute the Service or its output as a competing product.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the underlying source data or algorithms.
• Introduce viruses, bots, or other malicious code.
• Scrape or bulk-download content in a manner that places unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
• Misrepresent the output of the Service as constituting legal advice (see Section 7).

6. Intellectual Property

The LicenseForge platform, its design, code, and original content are the property of Dariusz Gulbicki and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

The texts of open-source licenses displayed in the License Browser are reproduced under their respective licenses and remain the intellectual property of their original authors or stewards (e.g., the Free Software Foundation, the Apache Software Foundation).

Documents you generate using the Service (Privacy Policies, Terms of Service, custom licenses) are yours. We claim no ownership over generated output.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defects will be corrected. License data and document templates are maintained in good faith but may not reflect the most recent legal developments in every jurisdiction.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, DARIUSZ GULBICKI AND LICENSEFORGE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Our aggregate liability for any claim arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to access the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) ten euros (€10). Because the Service is provided free of charge, this limit will ordinarily be €10.

10. Third-Party Links and Content

The Service may contain links to external websites or reference third-party license stewards. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or accuracy of any third-party site. Inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement.

11. Modifications to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after the revised Terms are posted constitutes acceptance of the changes.

We will endeavour to give reasonable notice of material changes by posting an announcement on the Service for a period of 30 days before they take effect.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Poland. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Poland, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the laws of your country of residence.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
